Organisers and competitors of the ninth annual International Kurash Open, held in London's Soccerdome, have high hopes for the future of kurash, aiming one day to take the sport to the olympic stage.

A mix between judo and wrestling, kurash is an aggressive, high-tempo martial art, and is attracting a growing number of followers worldwide.

Entrants of all ages, shapes and sizes took part on June 4th, many for the first time, to win first place and showcase the individual style of the Uzbek national sport.

A team of championship winners travelled all the way from Uzbekistan to take part, give advice and eventually wipe the floor with the European challengers.

Enjoy a selection of photos from the day, as we follow the progress of Brit, Nick Collins, through his first kurash experience.
